Important Annoucement
Heads up: The Main Street Bridge in La Porte City will close for repairs beginning Tuesday, October 13.
The City of La Porte City notified the district this morning that construction will begin tomorrow and is expected to last approximately one month.
During this time, Union Community School District buses will need to use the Highway 218 bridge to cross the river. Families should anticipate possible changes to transportation routes and schedules, including morning pickup and afternoon drop-off times.
Both the City of La Porte City and Union CSD requested that the sidewalk portion of the Main Street Bridge remain open during construction. Unfortunately, this request was denied due to the nature and extent of the necessary repairs.
For safety reasons, students who normally walk across the Main Street Bridge to reach the high school will need to make alternative arrangements.
Beginning Tuesday, October 13, and continuing for the duration of the bridge work, students are asked to walk to one of the current, board-approved bus stops on the east side of town.
The approved bus stops and approximate times are as follows:
3rd and Cedar: Bus #6
➡️ Morning pickup: 7:13am
➡️ Afternoon drop-off: 3:48pm
➡️ Early dismissal drop-off: 1:48pm
Locust Street: Bus #6
➡️ Morning pickup: 7:19am
➡️ Afternoon drop-off: 3:45pm
➡️ Early dismissal drop-off: 1:45pm
Methodist Church: Bus #13
➡️ Morning pickup: 7:11am
➡️ Afternoon drop-off: 3:47pm
➡️ Early dismissal drop-off: 1:47pm
All listed times are approximate. Additional information about bus route adjustments and revised pickup or drop-off times will be shared with families as needed once details are finalized.
We understand that this temporary closure may create inconveniences and require adjustments to established routines. The safety of our students remains our highest priority, and we appreciate everyone’s flexibility, patience, and cooperation as our drivers and families navigate these changes.
Thank you for your continued support. Go Knights!
