Welcome to Union High School
Welcome to Union High School, home of the Knights! Union High School is a public high school located in La Porte City, IA with approximately 350 students and 45 staff members. UHS serves the communities of La Porte City and Dysart.
My name is Jason Toenges and I currently serve as the high school principal. This will be my first year serving the Union Community School District and I am very excited for this great opportunity. Most recently, I served as the elementary and high school principal at MMCRU in northwest Iowa. Before entering into administration, I taught social studies at Pattonville School District near St. Louis, MO and taught social studies and was an instructional coach at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and Katy ISD near Houston, Texas.
UHS operates on a trimester schedule (6-period day/60 minutes each). We offer many co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities such as FFA, Drama, Choir, Band, Dance Team, Cheerleading, Speech, Silver Cord (Community Service Volunteer Opportunities), FTC & FRC Robotics Club, Art Club, and German Club.
At Union, we believe all students can and will be successful. - ACT: 22.5 (avg composite)
- Attendance: 95%
- Iowa Assessments: 90% of student body (grades 9-11 meeting proficient and/or growth measures)
UHS offers many IAHSAA (boy’s athletic union) & IGHSAU (girl’s athletic union) sports such as cross country (boys/girls), volleyball, swimming (boys/girls), football, basketball (boys/girls), wrestling, track (boys/girls), soccer (boys/girls), golf (boys/girls), tennis (boys/girls), baseball, and softball.
