Superintendent

Dear Knights:

Greetings from the Union Community School District! It is my pleasure to write this brief correspondence as the new superintendent for this outstanding district. I want each of you to know how honored I am to serve in this role and help lead the school district this year and long into the future.

We can (and should be) proud of all the things we have at Union. Our students’ academic success is well-documented. Our extra-curricular programs have been quite successful. Our parents are supportive and are partners with us in educating their children. Finally, and possibly most importantly, we have safe, purposeful environments (in all our buildings) with dedicated, positive staff who work hard every day for the betterment of students. Due to all of these factors, and so many more, the pride for the Union Community School District is clear.

As the new superintendent, I know many challenges lie ahead–from teaching and learning to finances and facilities, from extra-curricular options and staffing to lunches and buses and probably everything in between. Yet, I am extremely confident that with the traditions and past success associated with Union, the tremendous students and staff we have, and the support of stakeholders we can “pass” all these tests (no pun intended).

There is no question we have a tremendous school district. May we all take pride in what has been accomplished and look forward to the pending challenges and make the 2022-2023 school year a successful one for all stakeholders. Go Knights!

John Howard, Superintendent
