Superintendent

Dear Knights:

Greetings from the Union Community School District! It is my pleasure to write this brief correspondence as the superintendent. As I begin my 3rd year with the district, I want each of you to know how honored I am to continue to lead and serve the district.

The points of pride for our district are well-documented. Our school environments are safe and purposeful. Our students continue to perform well in the classroom and on standardized tests. Our staff is caring, compassionate, dedicated and professional. Our parents/guardians are supportive and are active partners in educating their children. Finally, and maybe most importantly, we are all Knights!

As the superintendent, I know many challenges lie ahead for this year. Just a few may be: district finances and facilities (especially with our pending bond issue), student enrollment decline, staff retention, scheduling adjustments, and providing quality extra-curricular opportunities for all. Yet, I am extremely confident that with the traditions and past success associated with Union, the tremendous students and staff we have, and the support of stakeholders we can “pass” all these tests (no pun intended).

There is no question we have a tremendous school district. May we all take pride in what has been accomplished and look forward to the pending challenges and make the 2024-2025 school year a successful one for all stakeholders. Go Knights!

John Howard, Superintendent
