Union CSD Names Michael Bruns Next Middle School Principal
The Union Community School District has named Michael Bruns as the next middle school principal, pending board approval.
Since 2021, Bruns has served as activities director and at-risk coordinator for the Union Community School District. He was selected as Union’s next middle school principal because of his proven leadership and commitment to students, staff, and the broader school community.
Throughout his time at Union, he has played an instrumental role in developing and strengthening the district’s activities program, creating meaningful opportunities for student involvement and growth. He has also demonstrated a strong ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
In addition, Bruns brings valuable experience and a deep understanding of the Capturing Kids Heart program, positioning him well to continue advancing initiatives that support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
Prior to joining the Union district, Bruns served as activities director and high school physical education and health teacher in the Calamus-Wheatland Community School District, as well as an alternative education teacher at Northeast Alternative High School in Goose Lake. He completed the Iowa Principal Leadership Academy through Keystone AEA in Elkader and holds a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine and a bachelor’s degree in education from Ashford University.
The district worked with Grundmeyer Leader Services (GLS) to conduct the search. Bruns will officially begin leading Union Middle School on July 1, 2026.
