UHS Spring Concert tribute to Class of 2018

On Tuesday, May 1st, the Union High School music department will present its major performing ensembles in concert.  The Concert Band under the direction of Mike Bistline, along with the Concert Choir under the direction of Tim J. Mitchell will present their last concert of the year in honor of the class of 2018.  This performance will be a preview of the pieces being prepared for State Contest on Friday. May 4th. The concert will be held in Matt Auditorium at the High School and will begin at 7pm.

The Concert Choir will perform their 3 pieces of the Contest set including “The Last Words of David” by Randall Thompson, “Flight Song” by Norwegian composer Kim Arnesen, and “Zum Gali” by Maurice Goldman.  The ensemble will also be presenting “Ubi Caritas” and “Let The River Run”

The Concert Band will perform four selections on Tuesday night. “Valdres” arranged by James Curnow, “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli, “Steel” by Randall Standridge, and “Arabian Dances” by Brian Balmages. “Steel” and “Cajun Folk Songs” will both be performed at State Contest as well.

The Concert Band and Concert Choir will then travel to Marion High School on Friday May 4th to participate in the Iowa High School Music Association’s State Large Group Festival.  The UHS Concert Choir will perform in the Gold Gym at Marion at 7:00pm and the UHS Concert Band will perform in the Red Gym at 8:40pm.  The state contest is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend to support our Union Musicians.
