UCSD and COVID-19

covid-19 imageLast evening, Governor Kim Reynolds recommended all schools in Iowa close for a period of four weeks.  Union Community School District is currently on spring break; we will comply with the Governor’s request to close all buildings and cancel all activities.  This includes any open gyms, athletic practices, rehearsals, youth activities, and weight training. We will continue to monitor reports from state and local agencies.  While this closure might be shortened, we must consider that it could be significantly longer. Classes will resume and our schools will reopen only when it is deemed safe.  We have been monitoring communications from the Center for Disease Control, Iowa Department of Public Health, Black Hawk and Tama County Health Department and working with area superintendents, local administration, and Union School Board Members.  Facilities will be accessible only to those personnel essential for day to day operations including administrators, district office personnel, and maintenance staff unless otherwise arranged through the district office. I understand that this decision to close causes many issues, but we need to do our part in containing the COVID-19 virus.  As information becomes available, we will forward that to you through email, Facebook, and text messaging. I appreciate your patience and support during this time. Please email your student’s building principal with any questions. All employee questions should be sent to Mr. Fleshner.

Travis Fleshner
Superintendent
