Baby Care Demonstrations

Caring for a baby is an awesome responsibility! The more confident a parent can feel about the day-to-day duties of caregiving, the better the chance of raising a happy and healthy baby.

The Task
Choose one aspect of caring for a newborn from the list below.
  • Research correct procedures using the Internet, your text, and other outside resources.
  • Plan and practice the procedure using an infant-sized baby doll.
  • Present your demonstration to the class.
  • Hand in your notes on the procedure and documentation from two sources used.

  • Resources
Some good resources for your project include: The Developing Child textbook, the Vertical Files on parenting in the Media Center (yellow file cabinets), Sirs Researcher (UHS File server) and InfoTrac (UHS File Server). Two good Internet resources are: The Pampers Parenting Institute and Well Baby Care. Another good Internet resource is Young Parents Project: Brand New Babies, but it is very slow to load.
    The Process
To accomplish this project, each student will be spending one or two days researching a procedure. You should:
  • Make notes to be handed in.
  • Document two sources.
  • Practice your procedure.
  • Demonstrate your procedure to the class.
